Jessie Bonnar was born in 1876 at Wickliffe, Victoria (Australia). She was the third daughter of Robert Bonnar and Marian Templeton.
She became a nurse.
Aged 38 years, Jessie married twenty year-old Duntroon graduate, Lieutenant Horace Robertson, later Lieutenant General Sir Horace Robertson, on 7th November 1914 at the Registry Office, Collingwood, Victoria. [1] The marriage was kept secret as, at the time, junior officers required the Army's permission to marry and at 20 years of age, Robertson would not have been granted such permission. A second marriage ceremony was performed on 19th October 1916 at the Kasr-el-Nil Chapel, Cairo. They had no children. They also kept their age difference secret from their friends and family!
In 1950, when her husband was created a Knight, Jessie became entitled as Lady Robertson.
Aged about 80 years, Lady Robertson passed away in August 1956 in Victoria, and was buried in Springvale Cemetery, Victoria. [2] She was survived by her husband.
