Richard was born on 25 October 1802 at 79 High Street, Arnold, Nottingham (now named Bonington House). He was the only child of Richard Bonington and Eleanor Parkes. [1]
In 1817, at the age of 14, Richard moved with his family to France. His father set-up a lace factory in France and from 1820 Richard attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After a short but notable career as an artist Richard died young in 1828. He had been suffering from tuberculosis and his parents sent him back to London for treatment. He died on 23 September 1828 and was buried in the graveyard of St James's Chapel Pentonville. His remains were later transferred to Kensal Green cemetery where his parents were buried. [2][3]
Richard is commemorated by a statue by Watson Fothergill outside the Nottingham School of Art.
