Ugo never married, but he did have a mistress, Maddalena Fulchini, who later married Simon Scamni, a mason.
Ugo Boncompagni was born on 7 January 1502 in Bologna, Papal States to Cristoforo Boncompagni (10 July 1470 – 1546) and Angela Marescalchi.
He was ordained a priest about 1558 and consecrated a bishop in 1558. He was created a cardinal on 12 March 1565 by Pope Pius IV. [1]
He died on 10 April 1585 aged 83 in Rome, Papal States.
