Biography

Tobias Boele

Name

Name: Tobias /Boele/[1][2][3][4]

Parents

Father: Adrian Boel, Mother: Cornelia (Unknown) Boel, m. 1564 at Antwerpen, Antwerpen, Belgium[5]

Birth

Tobias Boel was born ca. 1572 in Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium. [6]
The birth date of 1585 at Antwerpen, Belgium also appears among sources however it does not make sense.

Marriage

Tobias Boel married Margrieta van Apperloo on 1604, at Koeln, Koeln Duchy of Berg, now Koln, North Rhine-Westphalia. Source: #S43
Note: The city of Cologne, Koeln, or Koln, was located in the Duchy of Berg in the late 1500s and 1600s during the lifetime of Tobias. Cologne became French in 1794, Prussian in 1812, and then German when Prussia was absorbed into Germany in the late 1800s. The language of the area was low German (which includes Dutch). The term Rheinland, while descriptive of a vast area that included the Duchy of Berg, and Cologne, was not used until ca. 1815. Today, Cologne is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is the most populous city of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth largest city in Germany. Source: Wikipedia

Maria Boel was assisted by her sister Jannetie Boel on 12 May 1645, with filing her intent-to-marry Coenraedt ten Eyck record at the Reformed Church of Amsterdam. Maria and Jannetie's mother and father were dead. Coenraedt ten Eyck, was b 1518 at Meurs|Mors. Following is the text of the ten Eyck--Boel marriage intent record:
12 May 1645, Coenradt ten Eyck van Meurs schoenmakergezel wonende 11 jare op de N.Z. Voorburgwall out 27 jaren geen ouders hebben en Maria Boel van Keulen out 23 jaren wonen op de Coninxgracht. geen ouders hebbende geassisteerd met haar zuster Jannetie Boel.
Note: Coninxgracht aka Koningsgracht or "King's Canal", was named in honor of King Henry IV of France, who was an important ally of the Dutch Republic during the early part of the 17th Century. A gracht (city-canal) is a waterway in the city with streets on both sides of the water. The streets are lined with houses, often in a closed front. (In rare exceptions there is only one street, where on the other side of the waterway the houses border on the water, Coninxgracht, today named the Singelgracht, is the outermost of the 4 main canals of Amsterdam. In the early 1600's the canal was the moat protecting the city, and was used for water management. Not the best address in the city in the early 1600s.
Note also that Margrieta Boel|Boelens van Apperloo, her mother, was living on the Prinsengracht (Prince's Canal); this is the fourth and the longest of the main canals in Amsterdam. It is named after the Prince of Orange. Most of the canal houses along it were built during the Dutch Golden Age of the United Provinces. The bridges over the Prinsengracht canal connect with the streets in the Jordaan. Notable buildings along Prinsengracht include the Noorderkerk (Northern Church), the Noordermarkt (Northern Market), Anne Frank House, the Westerkerk (Western Church, Amsterdam's tallest church) with the Homomonument (Gay Monument), which actually faces Keizersgracht.

Tobias Boel died sometime before 12 May 1645 , probably at Amsterdam Noord Holland, Netherlands. This date is proven by Maria Boel's intent-to-marry record at the Amsterdam Reformed Church, dated 12 May, 1645, whitch listed that she was an orphan. Sources: #S43 and #S3. His Wife Margrieta van Apperloo was also deceased by 12 May 1645. She was known to be living in Amsterdam, on Prinsengracht in 1633..

Boel-26 and Boele-4 appear to represent the same person because: This newly imported duplicate is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain that needs to be merged. No tree conflicts. Thanks!
