James Boddie was born in Scotland.

In April 1881 the Boddie family lived in Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. ^[1] James Boddie (28) Merchant with wife Isabella Boddie (30) and children Alexander M Boddie (5), James N Boddie (4), Annabella F Boddie (2) & Barbara J Boddie (1) with William Mitchell (14), Margaret Henderson (19) & John F Robertson (14).

The Boddie family emigrated from Scotland on board the vessel Iberia and arrived in Melbourne, Australia in July 1889. James Broddie (36) with wife Isabella Broddie (37) and children Alexander M (13), James N (11), Annabella (10), Barbara J (9), Henry (7), Lily (4) and John H Broddie (1). ^[2]

He passed away in 1931, aged 79 and was buried at the Te Kuiti Cemetery. ^[3]
