Biography

Harry was born in 1861 in Adelaide in the Colony of South Australia. He was the son of William Blinman and his wife Mary (née Pearce).

Harry Blinman played 23 first-class cricket matches for South Australia between 1880 and 1896. And he also played Australian Rules football for the Norwood Football Club in the South Australian Football Association (SAFA). This would later become known as the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). It is worth noting that Harry Blinman was a premiership player with his older brother, Tom, in Norwood’s first two years in the League 1878 & 1879, while still only 16 years of age.

We see a potted Biography in The Mail newspaper of Saturday the 21st of August 1920. It came in honour of him receiving his Member of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) Award:

"MR. HARRY BLINMAN, M.V.O.
The title of Member of the Victorian Order which has been conferred on Mr. Blinman was created in 1896, and is grant-ed for personal services rendered to His Majesty the King.
Mr. Blinman was born in Adelaide on December 30, 1861. He was educated at the old Pulteney Street school under the late Rev. W. S. Moore. He entered also Customs Department of the Civil Service on February 25, 1878, and a few months later was transferred to the Audit Office, where he remained until October, 1883, when he was appointed to a clerkship in Chief Secretary's Office. On October 9, 1913, he was elected for the office Chief Clerk in the same department, and on retirement of Mr. L. S. Sholl, C.M.G., I.S.O. In 1916 he was appointed Under-Secretary, Secretary to the Premier, and Clerk of the Executive Council.
In earlier times Mr. Blinman was a noted athlete, and old sporting enthusiasts will recall his prowess on the football and cricket field with Norwood, and his sound general knowledge of other recreations. He still finds spare hours for pastimes, his particular hobby now being bowls.
The honour which HIs Majesty has been pleased to confer constitutes a high dis-tinction,which has been worthily bestowed upon an estimable public officer and a highly respected and popular citizen, who is certain to receive the warmest congra-tulations from all parts of the State.

He passed away in July 1950 in Adelaide and was buried at the West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide City, South Australia, Australia. And from The Advertiser newspaper of Monday 24 July 1950 we see his Death Notice below:

DEATHS
