Biography

Samuel Henry Blight was born in 1847 in Liskeard, Cornwall, England, the son of Matilda Blight and Samuel Blight.^[1]

He emigrated to Australia with his mother and siblings on the "Swiftsure" in 1858.^[2]

He married Eliza Jane Sleeman in 1872 in Victoria, Australia.^[3]

   The funeral of the late Mr. Samuel Henry Blight, an old and respected resident of Long Gully, who died at the early age of 45 years on Monday last, took place yesterday. The long funeral cortege moved from his late residence in Rae-street, to the Eaglehawk Cemetery. Deceased being a teacher of the Long Gully Wesleyan Sabbath-school, the teachers and scholars attended, and sang a hymn at the house and also at the cemetery. The Rev. S. Scholes officiated in a very impressive manner; and the mortuary arrangements were well carried out by Mr. W. Farmer. M'Crae-street.
