Roger Blechynden. [1] DEATH ON SERVICE
News was received last week-end of the death of Roger Blechynden, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Blechynden, formerly of Mt. Kokeby, and now residing at 6 Fraser Street, Swanbourne. The deceased who had turned 24 years of age on the 5th December last, enlisted in the RAAF in January, 1942, whilst still a resident of this district. Service as a dispatch rider followed, and his death came as a result of a collision with a military vehicle at Carlisle in which he received extensive injuries. He died not long after admission to the Hollywood Hospital. His mother was staying at the time at a daughter's residence in this district and was hastily recalled but she arrived too late to see him before he died.

Roger was born in the district and was educated at Beverley Convent and later at Kalamunda and Kokeby, afterwards being employed on his father's farm. He was a fine type of young man of quiet disposition and was held in high regard by all who knew him. As a mark of respect the flag at the Road Board office was half-masted when news of his demise was received on Saturday morning.
He was accorded an Air Force funeral the remains being interred in the War Graves Cemetery at Karrakatta in the presence of a representative gathering of relatives and friends. Members of the forces were in attendance and many beautiful wreaths and tokens were received. Deceased leaves a sorrowing father and mother, four sisters; Mrs J O'Shea (Dorothy) County Peak; Betty (Wongan Hills): Rita (Perth Public Hospital);, and Maureen (Swanbourne); and one brother (David) of the AIF Northam. To all these the sympathy of district friends will be extended in their great loss.
