Biography

Cate Blanchett is an Australian actress. She portrayed "Galadriel," an elf, in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies....

Catherine Élise BLANCHETT was born on 14 May 1969 in Ivanhoe, Victoria, Australia. Her parents were Robert DeWitt BLANCHETT Jr and Name redacted - living person.

She has a brother and a sister and was educated at Ivanhoe East Primary School; Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School; Methodist Ladies' College and finally at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) graduating in 1992.

Married with 4 children, she and her family have lived in England, Australia and the United States.

She is a patron and ambassador of the Australian Film Institute and its academy, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts and also a patron of the Sydney Film Festival. In 2009, Cate appeared in 2 special edition postage stamps part of the "Australian Legends of the Screen" series, one stamp as herself and and one in character from Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
