Thomas Raymond Blamey was born on 9th August 1914 at Toorak, Victoria, Australia. He was the younger son of Major (later Field Marshall) Thomas Blamey and Minnie Millard.[1]
Thomas studied for and became a solicitor. He also had the 'military service gene' common throughout the Blamey family and served in the Australian Militia.
His only sibling, brother Charles, was killed in an RAAF flying accident in 1932.
His mother died of cancer in 1935.Thomas transferred to the 2nd Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War; enlisted 27th September 1939, discharged 2nd October 1945.
His final posting was as a Major with Land Headquarters.

He saw action during the North African and Greek Campaigns in 1940-41.
He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire for "considerable devotion [to duty] and courage in the Middle East".

Thomas was posted as a military attache to the United States of America in 1942. Whilst there, he met, courted and married American Georgia C "Joy" Roberts, in 1942 in Washington DC. They had two children:
Following the war, Thomas returned to work in Melbourne as a solicitor. After losing Georgia to cancer in 1971,[6] Thomas married again, to Jean Boyd "Sue" Kelsall.[7] Sue also died of cancer, in 1992; leaving Thomas widowed a second time.
Thomas passed away on 16th March 1998 and is buried in Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Victoria. [8]
