Biography

Mary (Blakeman) Higginson immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Mary was the daughter of Rev. Adam and Jane (___) Blakeman.[1]

Mary (Blackman) Atwater Higginson born 1635 and died 1709 was the widow of Joshua Atwater when she married the Reverend John Higginson. [2]

"Mr Jofhua Atwatter and Mary Blackman were Married by mr Ludlow at Stratford ye 6th of may 1651." [3]

She married second John Higginson after 16 May 1676 (Joshua's death) in New England. The record lists her name as Mary Blakeman Atwater with birth year as 1636 and death year as 1709. [4] John Higginson was the sixth minister of Salem, Massachusetts, formerly of Guilford, Connecticut. Children by her first husband, - Ann; Samuel, b 20 Jun 1654; Joshua, born 10 April 1658; Mary b. 1659, and perhaps others. [5]

She died on 9 Mach1708/09 in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts at age 72. [6] She is buried in Burning Point Cemetery, Salem, Essex Massachusetts.
