Karen NAKHJIRI Beautiful wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away August 12, 2005 following a courageous battle with cancer. Karen was born November 30, 1955 to Neil and Lois Birky in Albany, Oregon. She graduated from Portland State University and moved with her husband, Mehdi, to Seattle to attend graduate school in Engineering at the University of Washington. Karen had an exemplary career in environmental engineering, working most recently as Project Engineer for URS Corporation. She was also very active with the University of Washington, School of Engineering Alumni and other professional organizations. Karen's family was the light and focus of her life. She is survived by her husband, Mehdi; son, Paimahn; daughter, Anahita; her mother and father and sister, Eileen. In addition, Karen brought joy to the lives of her many other relatives, friends, coworkers and acquaintances. Karen's strength of character, intellect and grace were evident in every aspect of her life. She shared her gifts of beauty, style, dignity and kindness to all with her many friends and family. We loved her very much and she will forever be in our hearts. The burial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Sunset Hills Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1215 145th Pl SE, Bellevue followed by Funeral Services at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, 1717 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue. Fellowship along with a meal will follow immediately after the service.
