Biography

Joseph Birkett is a part of US Black heritage.

Joseph was born in 1918 in Colon, Panama.^[1] He was the son of Joseph Birkett and Dulcie Woolford. ^[2] His father was from Barbados and his mother from Guyana.

Shortly after his birth his mother joined his father in the United States. In 1920 they were all living with the Moore family in Chicago, Illinois.^[3]

In 1940 Joseph was living with his father, stepmother and siblings in Queens, New York City, New York.^[4]

Joseph served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945.^[5]

He passed away in 1994. His last residence recorded with Social Security was in Queens.^[6] He was buried in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.^[7]
