Perry Birchfield is a Military Veteran. Served in the American Civil War
Perry was born in 1834.
He married Louisa Willaby on September 24, 1858 in Troup County, Georgia.[1]
He served the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. He enlisted on May 1, 1862, and was paroled by General Chrylser's troops at Talladega, Alabama on June 10, 1865. He was a Private in Company B., 37th Regiment, Alabama Infantry.[2]
Appears on Muster Roll of Company B dated 15 March 1862 at Auburn AL; Possibly mentioned in letter of Thomas Jefferson Strickland as being "Sick" at Columbus MS -- "... we have two or three very sick in our company. Some that you were not familiar with (but Peavy and I think he is better this morning)..." the surname interpreted as "Peavy" may well be the given name "Perry"; Furloughed 20 Dec 1862 " ... but didn't return." Hospitalized in General Hospital at Meridian MS on 8 Feb 1863; Discharged 15 Oct 1863;
Appears on Pension Record Card at Tallapoosa County, Pension application filed by Mrs. L. H. Birchfield, widow with notation "Soldier was wounded at Notasulga, Alabama" (possibly in reference to "Rousseau's Raid" or the "Battle of Chehaw Station" on 18 July 1864 near Notasulga AL -- only action found tied to this location, most of the CSA forces engaged were young military school cadets and conscripts from Camp Watts at Notasulga)
He died, at the age of 70-71, in 1905. He is buried at the New Site, Tallapoosa County, Alabama.[3]
