Death [citation needed]

There seems to be no source showing that she died in 1694 or that she died at Lyme. The only death record for that date in 1694 in Lyme, Conn., seems to be for Elizabeth Mary (Lynde) Beckwith, although that is based on a secondary source (findagrave): [4]

Research Notes

Disputed Spouse

The claim has been made for some years in various secondary sources that daughter Mary Birchard was the famous, unnamed "Bride of Bride's Book." Unfortunately without some evidence that she actually married the groom, Jonathan Rudd, or that only Thomas Birchard was prominent & influential enough to cause Gov. Winthrop to travel out in the snow to perform this marriage, no identification can be made.[5]

Mary Birchard did NOT marry Jonathan Rudd. He married Mary Metcalf.

Thank you for your interest. We don't show her married to Jonathan Rudd here, only an explanation so others don't try to add her as his wife. I'll try to clarify it a bit. The full story is on his profile. Whether he married Mary Metcalf or not is also in question. We show his wife as "Unknown Unknown" until some proof can be produced.
