Alexander James Bigelow (1911-1959)

Alexander James Bigelow was born 11 September 1911 at West Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia [1] the son of Ernest John Bigelow and Maria Stewart.

Alexander James Bigelow married Lola Mary Bevege on 12 August 1933 at Wallsend, New South Wales, Australia [2].

Alexander James Bigelow enlisted to serve in the Australian Army on 1 July 1940, serving in the 2/1st Pioneer Battalion during the World War Two conflict. His battalion participated in the Battles for Tobruk, Imita Ridge Operations and the Kokoda Trail Campaign. He was discharged from service on 29 June 1944 [3].

Charged, with having stolen a cheque valued at £1, the property of the New South Wales Government, Alexander James Bigelow, 28, was sentenced to three days' hard labour at the Kurri Kurri Police Court to-day. Constable Dimmock said defendant collected his wife's child endowment cheque from the Kurri Post Office, endorsed it with his wife's name and cashed it at a shop. He took 6/ home to his wife and told her he had won it at the races.
