Joseph Bickerdyke was killed along with his brother in the Astley Deep Pit Colliery Explosion on 14-Apr-1874

Joseph was born in 1839 in Newton, Cheshire, England. His parents were Matthew and Hannah.[1]

He married Hannah Berry in 1865[2]

In 1871 with wife Hannah and his 3 daughters. Working as a Coal Miner, living in Dukinfield, Lancashire[3]

Joseph and his father and brother were miners. Joseph was married and had four children. On the evening of 14 April 1874 Joseph and his brother Alfred were killed in an explosion in the Astley Deep Pit. He was buried 19 April 1874 in the St. George's Church in Hyde, Cheshire.

Research Notes

1871 England census for Cheshire>Newton, Newton>District 8 lists Alfred Bickerdyke (29) and wife Hannah(30) with children James Clegg(3) and Edmund (9 mo). Alfred is coal miner. Marriage need further research. Information from documentation about death of brothers says that Joseph's wife had a LNAB Moss. But ??
