Biography

Mother is Susannah Woodley Bevill. According to Amelia County Chancery Court Records Susannah Bevill, widow of James sued the administrators of her husband's estate on behalf of his minor heirs, i.e., Woodley Bevill, Robert Bevill, and Archer Jones Bevill for division of 8 slaves he left per his Will to this wife and minor sons.

Research Notes

"Woodleif" in some trees. The main DAR record for James Beville (1748-c1785) calls his wife "Susannah Woodley".^[1] Information submitted by a descendant calls her "Susannah Woodleif" (born c1752, married c1768, died c1790).^[2] The DAR record also shows sons James (married Nancy Hawks) and "Woodliff" or "Woodlief" (married Judith Winston Brackett).^[1]
