Henry Bess was born in 1805 in Rich Patch, Botetourt County, Virginia, United States, son of William H. Bess (1775–1864) and Rebecca Hamilton (1782– ).
Henry (29) married Eleanor Oyler (26) (born in 1808 in Botetourt County Virginia USA; daughter of Henry Oyler and Unnamed UNKNOWN) in 1835 in Alleghany County, Virginia. Their children were:
