Mr. J.B. Berry. [5]
Mr. J. B. Berry, who died, recently at Kilkenny in his eighty-second year, was a native of Coventry, Warwickshire, England, having been born on December 24 1834. He arrived in South Australia in 1850 with his parents, two brothers, and one sister. The immigrants made their home at McLaren Vale. Mr. Beriy obtained employment at the Callington Mines, and later was appointed storeman at the Wheal Ellen Mines. Desiring to become a school teacher he applied to the Board of Education, and was accepted, and for about 21 years was in charge of several schools in this State. After resigning he carried on a news agency business for a number of years in the Hindmarsh district. During his earlier, years he performed enthusiastic service as a local preacher, chiefly for the Methodists, and was always associated with the religious bodies where he resided. By his kindly manner Mr. Berry made many friends. There survive a widow, a brother, and a sister, five sons, four daughters, and a number of grand and great-grandchildren.
