Thomas Berry, son of James Berry and Ellen Whitehead, was born in Lancashire, England, and was baptised on 3 March 1776 at All Saints Church in Newton Heath, Manchester Parish, Lancashire. [1]

Thomas wed Elizabeth Hickinson on 24 March 1799 at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, St Denys and St George in Manchester, Lancashire, England. [2] [3] [4] [5] They had the following known children:

  1. Hannah Berry, 1799–1866;
  2. (William Berry, 1800-aft 1860, possible son);
  3. Ellen Berry, 1801–1876; [6]
  4. Frances Berry, 1803-;
  5. James Berry, 1804–1828; [7]

DNA Note

Based upon seven DNA matches - Albertus, alpine75, GenaGates, LaniWaters, dsmitter70, natasha rosloniec, Judy Rae Wing Kleeves - and their family trees, AncestryDNA has determined that Thomas Berry and his wife Elizabeth Hickinson are the parents of Hannah Berry and her siblings. This fact of parentage is corroborated by their children's baptismal records and by the List of Passengers aboard the ship Cincinattus on 19 October 1826. However, several Ancestry Family Trees have confused two or more couples with the same names Thomas & Elizabeth Berry. The Thomas & Elizabeth of this profile came from Lancashire, and emigrated to the United States in 1826; the other couples with those same names either did not come from Lancashire, or, if from Lancashire, stayed in England and figure in the 1841, 1851 and later English Censuses.
