Death and Legacy

Peter died 5 April 1737.[citation needed]

Curiously, his will was recorded in both New Jersey[2] and New York,[3] though he was a resident of New York.

Peter Berrien "yeoman, of Newtown, Queen's Co., Nassau Island, New York..." named beloved wife Elizabeth to have one-half of the plantation during her lifetime; names eldest son Cornelius, other children Samuel, John, Petrus, Jannetie, Nicholas, Jacob, Benjamin. Exe brother Nicholas Berrien and bro-in-law Samuel Fish. 31 October 1727. Probate 18 April 1737.

Peter Berrien's will 7 Nov 1752 (correct date is 1737, printing error on abstracts) Newtown, Queens, NY, yeoman, he names wife Elizabeth and children: Cornelius (eldest), Samuel, John, Petrus, Jannetie, Nicholas, Jacob and Benjamin. Exe. brother Nicholas Berrien and brother-in-law Samuel Fish. Proved 5 Nov 1752. ((possible error on transcribed date on the abstract) Lib F p 74. [4]
