After leaving the farm during the Great Depression, they lived in Boyd, Tripoli, and Readlyn, finally settling in Denver, Iowa in 1931, where they lived until retirement. Ted served several years on the Denver School Board and one term as mayor.

1933 Bergmann Family Reunion
On18 June 1933, the first Bergmann reunion was held at Sumner, Iowa, in the city park, with an estimated attendance of 500 people. Mary Bergmann, her children and spouses were among the attendees: Mary Bergmann, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Baruth, Leahe (Les) and Billy, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Bergmann and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bergmann and family.[12]

Theodore H Bergmann, 71, died 5 January 1970 in Waverly, Iowa, of a heart attack at a mobile home sales firm;[2] burial in Saint John Lutheran Western Douglas Cemetery, near Plainfield, Bremer County, Iowa.[15]
