Biography

Viola Benton was born about 1846 in Vermont. She was daughter of Stephen Benton and Lucetta Gale.

The 1860 Census records the household in Cornwall, Vermont. ^[1]

Viola married Irvin S. Bristol in Cornwall, Vermont on April 20, 1868. Irvin died 17 Nov 1885 in Vergennes, Vermont. ^[2]

She married secondly Ira WIlliams on Sep 27, 1886 in Vermont. ^[3]

In 1900, Viola lives with her husband of 15 years, Ira Williams, born in Vermont. [The census lists him as age 34, but it needs to be verified; he would have been married at age 19 to a 38 year old widow.] The census says she has four children, two are living. ^[4]

In 1920 Viola (Spencer) Williams was a widow living in Oxford, Massachusetts. Her household included Milo D. Benton, age 84, listed as a boarder, and Ellen M. Taylor, age 75, also listed as a boarder. ^[5]

She died in 1924 in Worcester, Massachusetts and is buried in Oxford, Massachusetts at North Cemetery. ^[6]
