Biography

Elizabeth Bennett was christened Iwerne Courtney 12 May 1811. ^[1]

She was the daughter of Charles Bennett.

She was the aunt of harness maker Frank Bennett.

She was a laundress.

In 1832, aged 18, Elizabeth gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Mary Bennett. The father was solicitor Fred Moore. (Mary stated this on her 1855 marriage certificate, the year after Fred died.)

In 1840, aged 26, Elizabeth gave birth to an illegitimate son, Edwin Bennett. The father is unknown.

Elizabeth married James Bellenger, Blandford 1847. ^[2][3][4]

James died 1874.

Research Notes

On some transcriptions of the 1851 census the children are naturally assumed to have the surname Bellenger, but no surnames are actually specified on the census, they are in fact Bennetts.
