Biography

Volga German
Peter Benner was a Volga German.

If the immigration information is correct for Peter (see below), he arrived in Philadelphia on board the Dominion, May 1912. His father, also named Peter, was still in Russia. Peter's Calgary contact was his brother-in-law J. Benner. Peter's wife accompanied him on the voyage. According to unsourced information on Ancestry, her name was Anna Maria Schneidmiller.

When the couple arrived in Calgary, they settled in the neighborhood of Bridgeland-Riverside where there were many other Germans from Russia. Like many newcomers they went from house to house in the same community until they finally obtained a permanent residence which in this case was 227 -7A St. N.E.

It seems that Peter quickly found occupation at Riverside Iron Works which eventually became Dominion Bridge and this is where he spent his entire working life.

Adam's wife died in 1964 and Adam died on May 13, 1972. They are buried at Queen's Park Cemetery.
