Biography

George Lyman Bellows was son of Ephraim Bellows and Sarah Brown. He was born Apr 6 1828 in Concord, Massachusetts. [1] Find A Grave gives his birth place Ware, Massachusetts but that appears to be incorrect.

George was in business in Boston, Massachusetts for some years and later in Chicago, Illinois. He never married. [2]

In 1850 he lived in a boarding house in Medford, Massachusetts and was a merchant. [3] In 1860 he lived in Worcester, Massachusetts with his family. [4]

He served in the Civil War, entering as a captain in the 51st Illinois Regiment and was promoted to major. [2]

George was killed at the Battle of Missionary Ridge on Nov 26, 1863. [2] He is buried in the Worcester Rural Cemetery, Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts. [5]
