John was baptised in 1807 in Freiston, Lincolnshire, England.[1] He was the son of Peter Behagg and Ann Goy.[2]

In 1826 John married Mary Forster in Wistow, Huntingdonshire,[3] where their children were born and where they lived. John was an agricultural labourer.[4][5] In 1861, Mary's 88 year-old mother, Hannah Foster, lived with them.[6]

The Behagg family emigrated to the United States of America. John died in 1868 and was buried in Evansville, Vanderburgh county, Indiana.[7]

Research notes

Some Ancestry trees say John was the son of this Peter Behagg. Was this Peter the same man who married Ann Goy in Sibsey, Lincolnshire, in 1806?[2] Ann would have to have died before 1815 when Peter married Mary Ann Griffiths. I couldn't find a burial for Ann in Freiston on FamilySearch or in Wistow on Findmypast (online records may not be complete though); if I could confirm she died I would be reasonably happy that it was the same Peter!

Peter and Ann's children (John's siblings) were baptised in Freiston:
