Clement Beeby was born in New South Wales, Australia

Clement Lewis Beeby was born on 21st August 1913 in Sydney's western suburbs, New South Wales, Australia. He was the fifth and youngest son of Edward Beeby and Elizabeth McLachlan. [1]

Served in the Second Australian Imperial Force 1940-1945
2/4th Infantry Battalion

On 20th May 1940, Clement enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force, his nation's all-volunteer expeditionary force for the fast-escalating Second World War. Being yet single, his other was listed as his next-of-kin. [2] He was posted to the 2/4th Infantry Battalion, with whom he attained promotion to the junior non-commissioned rank of Lance Corporal. Initially a unit of the 16th Infantry Brigade, later in 1940 the battalion was transferred to the new 19th Infantry Brigade, still within the 6th Division. The battalion saw action in Libya, Greece, Crete and New Guinea. It was also deployed in Darwin against possible invasion. The war over, and won, he was demobilised on 12th October 1945. [2] For his war service Clement was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
