It was said she [Sarah Selena Becknell Comer] was so particular about her manner of dress that if she decided she didn't like the earrings she was wearing while she was on her way to town, she'd turn around and go home to change. She always wore her best underwear in case she was run over by a horse.
My father lived in Sharon at the time, and was put on a train and sent to York to visit in the summer. He said no one met him at the station-he carried his bag and walked. Now he was 7 years old. When he arrived at the house it would be in the afternoon. He set his suitcase on the porch and sat down. His grandmother's window was always open and she told him just to sit still. When she finished her rest she would come get him! What a greeting!. Source Marge Schafer, her g.g-daughter.
