David Robert Joseph Beckham was born on 2 May 1975 in Leytonstone, Essex, England, United Kingdom. [1] His parents were David Edward Alan Beckham and Sandra Georgina West.
His maternal grandfather Joseph West was Jewish, and Beckham has often referred to himself as "half-Jewish". [2] Beckham also attended his grandfather's Jewish funeral in 2009. [3] Beckham has always said that his grandfather was his 'footballing inspiration'.
Beckham began dating former Spice Girl Victoria "Posh" Adams, and the couple married in Dublin, Ireland on 4 July 1999. They have four children: three sons and a daughter.

David Beckham bends a free kick |
Beckham became famous for his style of 'bending' free kicks (there is even a film called "Bend it like Beckham"). In 2006, Beckham decided to step down from being the captain of the England football team. Beckham and his family moved to Los Angeles, California, USA so that David could join the LA Galaxy team (he became its captain).
In 2010, Beckham was given the BBC Sports Personality of the year Lifetime Achievement Award. [5]
Beckham retired from playing football in 2013. [6] In the same year, Forbes listed him as being the highest-paid player in the world.
