Biography

Frederic was born in 1812 and baptised a month later in Highgate, Middlesex, London, son of Louis Beauvais and Sarah Matly. [1]

Frederic was a mariner. Initially he served in the Royal Navy and later as a merchant seaman.

He served on

- 23 June 1832-15 Nov 1835 HMS Vernon (1832)

- 16 Nov 1833 - 3 Mar 1834 HMS Gannet (1814)

- 9 Jun 1839 - 6 Jan 1842 HMS Powerful (1826). The HMS Powerful was part of the Syrian War against the expansionist designs of Mehmet Ali, including at the bombardment of Acre, 3 November 1840, where she sustained damage but no casualties. Powerful was then flagship of the squadron that blockaded Alexandria from 25 November. Frederic received a Naval General Service Medal for his service in the Syrian War.

(NB: The year in brackets after the ship specifies the year it was launched as there were several ships with the same name over time). [2] [3]

Frederic married Mary Ann Walker, daughter of James George Walker (deceased) in 1844. At the time of marriage, Frederic's address was East St Lambeth, which was also his sister Amelia's address. The marriage was witnessed by his sister Amelia Sarah Parsons. [4]

The rest of his career was as a merchant seaman. There is some information on 1853-1857.

- In !853, he sailed on the Golden Fleece from London to "Australasia Land".

- In 1854 , he sailed on Yarra (Registered14668 in 1852 at Alloa)

- In 1855 and 1856 on the 'Bury St Edmunds', also here.

- Later in 1856 back on the Yarra to Babia. [5]

In 1871, he was living by himself in John St, Lambeth. [6]

Frederic and Mary Ann do not seem to have had any children (according to a GRO search). Frederic passed away in 1874, age 63, due to pneumonia. He was living at 32 John Street at the time. [7] [8]
