Biography

John Beaty is a part of US Black heritage.

John was born about 1880. He was the son of Powhatan Beaty and Mary Sedan.

John is mentioned as fighting with US Infantry in the Phillipines in his father's obituary in 1916. ^[1] He joined the 24th Infantry in 1912. He was honorably discharged in 1915, but may have re-enlisted.^[2] The 24th Infantry Regiment of the US Army was primarily made up of African-American soldiers prior to 1951.^[3]

He is also mentioned in his brother A. Lee's obituary in 1936 as being a survivor. ^[4]
