Sir David Stuart Beattie GCMG GCVO QSO KStJ QC (29 February 1924 – 4 February 2001) was the 14th Governor-General of New Zealand, from 1980 to 1985. Born in Sydney on 29 February 1924, he was brought up by his mother in Takapuna. He went to Dilworth School in Auckland.
In 1941, at age 17, he joined the army during World War II, and rose to the rank of sergeant before transferring to the Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Sub-Lieutenant.
