Margaret was the eldest daughter born about 1527 to David Beaton then Abbot of Aberbrothoc and his mistress Marion Ogilvy daughter of James Ogilvy of Airlie and his third wife Janet Lyle.
Margaret was contracted on 10 April 1546 to marry David Lindsay, grandson of the deceased David, earl of Crawford. [1]
On 14 Apr 1551 Instrument was taken at instance of David Master of Crawdor upon a contract at Edzell between David earl of Crawford and David Master of Crawfordat his age of 24 years or thereby approved a contract made at St Andrews 9 April 1546 between Cardinal David and Margaret Breoun his daughter on the one part and said David earl of Crawfor and David Master of Crawford on the other a Bond of 1546 and (3) a Bond of Obligation dated at Brechin 9 Aug 1546 made by the sd, Master with consent of his curators ; Master David Pitkerne archbishop of Brechin, James Rynd of Kerse and James Fenton of Ogill to sd David earl of Crawford. This contract confirmed that he shall within a year of the term of Whitsunday 1552 redeem the lands of the Mains and toun of Meigle wadset to the laird of Ruthven under reversion of sum of 2600 merks.[2]
