James was born about 1905 in Mississippi. He was the son of Annie McCain.

In 1910 he was living with his mother in his maternal grandparents home in VIcksburg, Mississippi.^[1] In 1930 he was still single and living in his mother's home in Vicksburg along with a sister.^[2]

In 1940 he was living with a daughter in his mother's household in Vicksburg. He was listed as married but no spouse was present. ^[3] At the time he was working for the Oneill Mcnamara Hardware Company.

James served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the Quartermaster Corp.^[4]

He passed away in 1966 and was buried in the Vicksburg City Cemetery.^[4]
