Biography

Mary Bean is a member of Clan MacBean.

Mary Bean was born on 27 November 1742 in Contoocook, Merrimack, New Hampshire[1][2], daughter of Sinkler Bean (1720 - 1798) and Shuah (Fifield) Bean (1720 - ~1800). Her parents were married on 18 July 1739 in Kingston, Rockingham, New Hampshire[3][4].

  11. Micajah Bean (1764 - 1764)

On November 27, 1763 in Brentwood, New Hampshire, Mary married her first cousin, Joshua Bean Jr (1741 - 1814) the son of her paternal Uncle Joshua Bean Sr.

The couple had 13 children (plus one who died in infancy). The children were born in Gilmanton except the youngest two who were born in Readfield. Their children were:

  2. Mehitable Bean (1766 - 1814)
  3. Joel Bean (1768 - 1828)
  4. John Bean (1770 - 1854)
  5. Ruth Bean (1772 - 1801)
  6. Reuben Bean (1774 - 1861)
  7. Betsey Bean (1776 - 1814)
  8. Asa Bean (~1779 - ~1811)
  9. Captain James Bean (1780 - 1862)
  10. Jeremiah Bean (1782 - 1835)
  11. Shepard Bean (1784 - 1847)
  12. Hannah E Bean (1787 - 1876)
  13. Manley Bean (1790 - 1837).

Three of the boys of this family married sisters, the daughters of Samuel Taylor. Reuben, James and Jeremiah, plus a grandson, Greelief, son of Elisha, formed the main Bean families who moved from Readfield to Jay, Maine. They all settled at what later became as Beans Corners, Maine.

Mary died on 18 October 1822 in Readfield, Kennebec, Maine, United States aged 79. [5]

Mary's estate passed probate on 10 December 1822. Her will was written on 13 January 1819.[6]
