Congrats Louisa on becoming a Family Member of WikiTree!
I'm a volunteer greeter, here to answer your questions about WikiTree.
Our New Member How-To pages can help you get started adding profiles or just learning your way around.
I see that you have had your DNA tested, congratulations! Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
To be able to add profiles, you will need to upgrade (there is no cost). You can do this from your Upgrade page. Just answer the five questions, e.g. who you want to communicate with, if others can see your family tree, what surnames, locations, or topics interest you, etc, and click on the green box that says "Upgradeā.
Upgrading just means you will become a Family Member with the ability to work on your immediate ancestors to help us achieve our goal of joining all individual family trees into one global family tree.
I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.
Thank you, Cheryl. My biggest question is about GEDCOM. I don't have a folder with a .ged file. I do have DNA info somewhere, but finding it is a different matter. Where would I go from here?
We do not download DNA Data on WikiTree. We do enter our DNA testing information and it is very easy to do. On the top right of most pages there is an active button "ADD". If you hover over that button there is a drop-down box and the first item is DNA. Click on that and follow the instructions. You can enter your testing company and the type of test such as Y-DNA, mtDNA or Autosomal (Family Finder): Ancestry, FTDNA, My Heritage, and GedMatch are examples of the companies. You will also add your identifying information such as the kit # for FTDNA.
If you have already entered ancestors it will take about 24 hours for your test information to populate those profiles. As you add more profiles the information will continue to show up on all the appropriate ancestors' profiles.
I hope this helps. If you have problems or other questions, be sure to ask.

I am new to this, and have played with some other sites, including Ancestry.com. I have found some information that doesn't seem to fit and want to start a new tree with more care and more sources.
3. Our help pages, top right, have all sorts of useful information.
If you would like to contribute, click the volunteer button and leave a comment here on your profile to let our greeters know. You should include a little bit about how you plan to contribute to the tree.

You don't need a GEDCOM or DNA to participate at WikiTree. When you are ready to communicate with cousins or others about genealogy or add profiles on our single family tree), you can upgrade at no cost to the Family Member level at any time by adding your genealogy communication preferences.

Hilary is off-duty right now and wouldn't have seen your message as it is a comment and not a reply to her message. I'm happy to help though!
You do not need to subscribe to Ancestry to get your username. That is all you need to enter when you enter your DNA testing information.
Please let me know if you need further assistance!
