Biography
Josiah Beach was born in 1839 in Tippecanoe, Indiana, United States, son of Nathan Beach (1798–1874) and Mary Meharry (1803–1868). In the 1850 census Josiah (age 12) was in Coal Creek, Montgomery, Indiana, United States.[1] In the 1860 census Nathan (age 20) was in Coal Creek, Montgomery, Indiana.[2] Nathan was unmarried when he registered for the draft in 1963 in Randolph, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.[3]
Nathan married Ellen House (born in 1850). In 1880, Josiah (40) was living in Randolph Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, with his wife Mary E. (31), his daughter Mary (9), his son Nathan (1/12), and his sister-in-law Catherine Crouch (17).[4]
Nathan (40) married Elva Allen (19) (born on October 29, 1861 in Tippecanoe County) on 17 Nov 1881 in Tippecanoe. County, Indiana.[5][6] In the 1900 census Josesh (age 60), Farmer, was the married head of household in Randolph, Tippecanoe, Indiana.[7] Josiah and Elva were in a directory in 1909 in West Lafayette, Indiana, United States.[8] Josiah, Elva, and Estella were received as members of the West Lafayette Methodist Church on 5 September 1909.[9] In the 1910 census Josiah (age 70), Own Income, was the married head of household in Wabash, Tippecanoe, Indiana, United States.[10]
J N Beach died (age 74) on 7 April 1914 in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, where he had been staying for three months. He had suffered from stomach cancer for three years, and also had nephritis. His body was transported to West Lafayette, Indiana, for burial.[11] He was buried in Meharry Cemetery, Wingate, Montgomery County, Indiana, United States.[12]
