Biography

James Bayley was a convict on the First Fleet.

James was born about 1745.

James Bayley was convicted on 11 March 1786 at New Sarum (Salisbury) Wiltshire, and sentenced to 7 years transportation. He was sent to the Dunkirk hulk, his age recorded as 40, then transported on the Charlotte, part of the First Fleet, arriving at Port Jackson in January 1788.

On 14 Feb 1789 he was sent to Norfolk island, where he shared with Ann Steel (Lady Juliana) a sow that produced a litter of 7 in Sep 1791.

He left Norfolk island in November 1794 for Port Jackson by Daedalus.

He was probably the man James Bailey who was permitted to leave for England in May 1805 by Harriet.
