From Genealogical and Personal History of Western Pennsylvania:
During the persecutions of the sixteenth century some members
of the family fled to Holland, where one of them (Samuel Bayard) married Anna Stuyvesant,
a sister of Peter Stuyvesant, the first Dutch governor of New York, then
New Amsterdam. When he came to take possession of his province, in
1647, his sister, then a widow, accompanied him with her children. Thus
was planted on the shores of the New World a race in whose veins flowed
the blood of the du Terralls and Stuyvesants, of the good knight "without
fear and without reproach," and of the valiant soldier-governor of the
province of New Netherlands.

Research Notes
There is an index to baptisms in Alphen with a "Bayard" entry[5] that translates to:
Samuel Bayard, french schoolmaster, buys in Feb 1644 a house and a piece of land, departed according to the church members book in 1647.
His sister Judith, young daughter from Breda, marries in Breda with the attestation issued in Alphen Aug 6, 1645, to Sir Pieter Stuyvesant, from Stellingwerf young man, Director General of N. Nederland.
The Delaware Bayards are descended from Nicholas Bayard, who fled from France to Holland, and married Anneke, a sister of Peter Stuyvesant. They had three children, Balthazar, Peter, and Nicholas.
This source is in conflict with the other sources described here who identify this person as Samuel, not Nicholas, Bayard.[6]

Could one of the project managers correct Samuel's birth year, please, because in 1609 in Breda (NL) his sister Rebecca was born (baptized in walloon church Breda on 30 Sept. 1609), not Samuel (born in 1610) see my earlier comment posted here.

Samuel was baptized not in Amsterdam, but in Breda (Brabant, NL, like his sister Judith 2 years earlier) by his father the pastor Lazare Bayard in the Walloon French Church on 8 dec 1610: Quote : " Le 8 de Decembre 1610 à Samuel mon filz, Tesmoings Nicolas Sauart el la femme de Mr. Thomas Pasqué."Unquote. Source: Collectie DTB Breda, inventarisnummer 89, blad 9.
When Samuel married in Amsterdam NL in 1638 (marr. banns 21 October) he stated to be 26 years old, of Breda NL, (thus there born in 1612, sic!), but no Samuel, was found baptized that year in Breda (neither in Amsterdam), just a brother, called Louis, baptized on January 16, 1612 in Breda.
Obviously, Samuel did not know his exact year of birth. At his marriage banns in 1638, Samuel was assisted by his mother Judith Bayeren (sic!) and was a schoolmaster living in the Rokin Street.
