Ferdinand was born on 20 January 1550 in Landshut, Niederbayern, Bavaria. He was the second surviving son of Albrecht Wittelsbach and Anna (Habsburg) von Bayern.
Ferdinand kept two extraordinary diaries, one as fifteen-year-old boy on a journey from Munich to Florence, for his aunt's wedding, and a second journey to Florence, this time as young and experienced man of affairs.[1]
Ferdinand died at the age of 58 on 30 January 1608 in Mhunchen, Oberbayern, Bavaria. He was buried in Mhunchen, Oberbayern, Bavaria.
