Biography
Jacob was born on 3 March 1580 in Eisingen, Pforzheim, Margraviate of Baden-Durlach, Holy Roman Empire.[1]
He was a citizen of Eisingen, and sat on the local law court between 1627 and 1632.[2]
Jacob Bauer married (1) Barbara (surname unknown) sometime before 1609; and (2) Anna (surname unknown) in 1611.[3] Jacob and Barbara were the parents of Hans Bauer, who married (1) Catharina Bauer on 29 April 1634 in Eisingen; and (2) Anna Kühner on 20 October 1646 in Pforzheim.[4]
He was killed on 9 September 1634 in Eisingen, Pforzheim, Margraviate of Baden-Durlach, Holy Roman Empire. In the Thirty Years War, after the Protestant defeat at the Battle of Nördlingen on 27 August 1634 (OS), the victorious Imperial Army rampaged through the region. Eventually they quartered themselves among the populace, leading to starvation and the Black Death. A squadron of cavalry, riding to and fro in the Protestant town about a fortnight after the battle, chanced upon Jacob and cut him down, hanging his body on a town marker. He was taken down and buried the next day.[5]
