  • First-hand information. Entered by Deborah Battye at registration.

Roots in South Wales: Llanelli and Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Glamorgan and Monmouthshire. One line (Battye) originated in the USA and I would love to find out who my great grandfather James Quentin Battye, seaman and trades union secretary, REALLY was! 2020 update: DNA proof that great grandfather James Q Battye was actually born James E Bettey, DeWitt, Clinton County, Iowa. Son of John Fassett Bettey and Phebe Russell Whittemore. Will update tree in due course.

2020 update! Proof at last - my hunch was correct. DNA proof that James Quentin Battye was indeed James E Bettey. A whole new lineage has opened!

Hi Deborah, Thank you for adding more details to Thomas Angel b.1749's profile. As far as I'm concerned if a profile is accessible without needing permission, you are more than welcome to add anything you feel is relevant to a matching profile that already exists. Your help is gratefully received.

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Guy ~ WikiTree Mentor

Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome. I will be slow to integrate fully as work gets in the way of life - but I hope to participate as best I can at the moment!

Hi Deborah,

You're singing my song. The reasons you gave for preferring Wikitree are exactly the reasons I give when telling anyone else they should give it a try. I hope you have as much success here as I have.

Margaret

Born in Wales but with roots in the USA and England. Always happy to help with research and /or local records or photographs if within a reasonable distance of where I live in Pembrokeshire
Having stumbled upon WikiTree by chance I am delighted! I wholeheartedly agree with all nine mission points and applaud the ethos behind it. I've researched for over 12 years and at last I feel I've found a 'home'! Whilst the big name companies are great for searching records I feel they fail when sharing collaborators trees as the contributors research is sometimes zero, leading to huge mistakes being perpetuated for a long time. Requests for correction are usually ignored. I hope WikiTree is the answer for me! Thank you!
