Biography

Rosanna (Batten) Oakley is a part of US Black heritage.

Rosanna was born in 1857. She is the daughter of Edmond Batten and Alsey Batton.

In the 1870 census Rosanna (age 19) was in Rutherford, Tennessee, United States. She was living with her mother and four brothers.^[1]

In the 1880 census Rosanna (age 29), Farmer, was the single daughter of Ailsey Batton in District 11, Rutherford, Tennessee.^[2]

Rosana (age 23) married Dock Oakley (age 35) on 7 January 1882 in Rutherford, Tennessee.^[3]

In the 1900 census Rosana (age 43) was the wife of Dock Oakley in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee.^[4]

In the 1910 census Rosetta (age 44) was the wife of Doc Oakley in Nashville Ward 11, Davidson, Tennessee, United States.^[5]

Dock died in 1914.

Rosanna died (age 60) in 1918 in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee.^[6]

According to her death record, Rosanna was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashville, Tennessee.

Research Notes

• The 1880 U.S. Census record citation from FamilySearch is filling in the location as Grainger, TN. The correct location is Rutherford, TN.

• The two young children who were counted as Aisley's children on the 1880 U.S. Census were likely Roseanna's. The boy child, Willie, was counted with Roseanna's family in 1900.

• The only child to be located in records after 1920 was Daisy Oakley Carter who may be the same person as Fannie Oakley who was counted with the family on he 1900 U.S. Census, but not in 1910.

• Son John Oakley died in 1916.
