Hilton was born in 1910. He was the son of Thomas Bates and Louisa Smith. He passed away in 1944.
Hilton’s Merchant ship, the “Nellore”, was torpedoed and sank some where in the Atlentic Ocean. Hilton wasn’t listed as one of the survivors.
After his death his widowed wife married his older brother Reginald.
