Biography

DICY Dica Barton was born in 1771 in South Carolina, USA. She died in 1865 in Hickman, Tennessee, USA. When she was 19, she married JOHN Wheat, son of James Wheat, in 1790 probably in South Carolina, USA .

Dicy and John Wheat livedin Kershaw County, South Carolina from about 1791 until after November 1802, by which time they had sold most of their land. The next time they are found is in 1820 in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee. It is assumed that they were in Tennessee before 1810. The 1810 census for most of Tennessee was lost, and there is no record of the family in South Carolina in 1810. ^[1]

John Wheat was found in Maury County, Tennessee in 1830. By 1840 he had died, and Dicy was living in Hickman, Tennessee, USA in 1840, where she seems to have lived until her death.

In the 1850 census Dicy (age about 77) was living in Hickman, Tennessee. The head of household was Nancy Wheat, age 67. This is probably daughter Nancy, actually age closer to 57. Also on this page is daughter Eleanor (Spencer) and family.^[2]

In the 1860 census Dicy (age about 89) was living in District 14, Hickman, Tennessee. Here she is listed as head of household, with John Smithson and Angelina née Barnes. Angelina's mother is listed as "Nancy White". This could be Wheat of course, but also possibly just friends, or boarders!.^[3]
