Daphne May Barton was born on 29th March 1920 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Daphne served her country during the Second World War, being awarded both the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
She married Albert Chowne in March 1944 in St Phillip's Church of England (Anglican Church), Sydney.[1] Albert was killed in action the following March during the Aitape-Wewak Campaign in New Guinea. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for the action that cost him his life.
Daphne married again following Albert's death, to John Dunne, a Second World War Prisoner-of-War of the Japanese, in 1955 at Sydney.[2]
Daphne passed away on 1st April 2019 at the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, New South Wales, shortly after receiving a birthday card from Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, to celebrate her 99th birthday.[3]
