The passing of James O Bartlett, a well known citizen of Snelling, this week carried the editor of this paper back to the days of 1875 when he first became acquainted with the deceased at Visalia. Mr Bartlett was then a young man and in the company of D H James, an enterprising citizen of that town. He soon afterwards located at Snelling where he followed farming for many years with fair success. "Jim" Bartlett, as was familiarly known to his many friends, was an upright and honorable man and commanded the respect of all who knew him.

The deceased was a native of Illinois and 51 years of age. He came to California in 1873 and had made his home in this county for over twenty-five years. About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Josie Trosper, who with three children survive him. He was a member of Willow Lodge No 121 IOOF and was buried under the auspices of that order last Wednesday.

"Jim" for years of acquaintances we say: Farewell! Farewell! May God accept you and Christ receive you, and may the rains of heaven moisten the earth and the sun of our western skies warm the soil that the flowers may blossom over the sacred spot where your body lies.
