Biography

Victor was reportedly born 2 June 1846 in Paris, France while his mother Mary Dorsey and father Joseph Barthe had travelled there to visit the land of Joseph's birth.^[1][2]

On 25 July 1860 Victor (recorded age 11) was residing with his parents and siblings in Attakapas, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, United States. A Widow Dorsey, age 54, a Planter, is enumerated in the second dwelling before Victor's and was likely his maternal grandmother mother.^[3]

On 1 August 1870 Victor (recorded age 18), a Farm Laborer, was residing with his parents and siblings Ward 2, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[4]

In about 1872 Victor (age about 26) married Monica Usher in Louisiana, United States.^[5]

On 5 June 1880 Victor (recorded age 29), a Farmer, was residing with his wife and children in Petite Anse, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[6]

In about 1884 Victor (age about 38) was Naturalized at the Court House in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[1][2]

On 4 June 1900 Victor (recorded age 49), a Farmer, was residing with his wife and childrend in Police Jury Ward 6, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[7]

On 28 April 1910 Victor (recorded age 58), a Carpenter, was residing with this wife and children on Ann Street in Ward 4, New Iberia, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[8]

On 14 January 1920 Victor (recorded age 72) was residing with his wife in the home of his son Clem Barthe and his wife at 601 Peters Avenue in Ward 13, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[9]

On 13 February 1920 Louis applied for a passport in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, United States for the purpose of travelling to several Central American countries and Mexico on behalf Otis Manufacturing Company, an importer of Mahogany Lumber.^[1][2]

Victor died at the recorded age of 77 on 15 March 1927 at the home of his son Clem, 601 Peters Avenue, in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[10][11] He was buried on 15 March 1927 in Rose Hill Cemetery, New Iberia, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[5]
